Another Bizarre Treehopper

January 31, 2010 | Tupaciguara, Minas Gerais, Brazil

I’ve shown a couple of odd treehoppers already, but here’s yet another variation on that theme. This time, I do kinda see a resemblance to an ant.

Marshall’s 500 Insects includes a very similar looking treehopper identified as a Cyphonia species.

What a great treehopper. Quite unusual from our US ones!

Jeez. All these crazy looking treehoppers are completely and utterly new to me.

Great picture. The specimens from Bahia, Brazil, are slightly different coloured. Look at the third pair of legs and the two clava of the pronotum (brownish in Bahia). I’ll get more photos in order to confirm the difference. Thanks anyway. Pedro
